Venezuela to EUR 100 million to TAP – Daily News – Lisbon

Venezuela to EUR 100 million to TAP – Daily News – Lisbon

There are several airlines
involved in this conflict. The Venezuelan government refuses to release
profits from sales of airline tickets made in the country, and requires
carriers exchange rates for the dollar much higher
those prevailing in other sectors of the economy.

While other airlines
opted to reduce or even stop flights to the country due to
situation, TAP preferred to keep the links in operation
while continuing negotiations with the government of Nicolás Maduro.
The State cites an official source of cabinet Paulo Portas, who
stated that “the matter has indeed been approached in the past
joint committees with the Government of Venezuela. ”

Maduro promised to regularize the
situation, but this year was only returned a small amount of
Total retained in the country. According to the International Association of
Air Transport, the debt will amount to EUR 2771 million,
 from 13 airlines.

One reason for the maintenance of
Lisbon-Caracas connection relates to the large amount of
Portuguese emigrants in Venezuela that depend on this
airline to travel to Portugal. Contacted by
Public, TAP said: “The route is not in Caracas
 doubt. ”
