Banks expect slight increase in demand for loans … – Daily News – Lisbon

Portuguese banks expect there to be a “slight increase” in demand for loans by businesses and households in the first quarter of this year, according to the results of a survey published today by the Bank of Portugal.

Bank of Portugal today released the document which reflects the survey results made in December to the main banks on the supply and demand for credit, the Survey of Bank Lending Market.

“The survey results point to a slight increase in global demand for loans during the fourth quarter, especially notorious for long-term loans by companies, “reads the document.

For the first quarter of 2015, banks anticipate “a slight increase in loan demand by enterprises, which should be linked to small and medium enterprises and for all types of maturity.”

In what refers to individuals, banks expect “slight increases in demand, both for house purchase and for consumption and other purposes.”
