World tourism grew 4.7% in 2014 – Journal of Business – Portugal

In 2015, the prospects of the World Tourism Organization report a slight slowdown in growth in the number of international tourists.

The number of international tourists grew 4, 7% in 2014 over the previous year. Data from the World Tourism Organization realize that more than 1.1 billion tourists crossed the borders of their countries. So are more 51 million compared to 2013.

America (7%) and Asia Pacific (5%) are the parts of the world to experience a more rapid growth in this indicator. Europe and Middle East both grow at a rate of 4%. Africa is by an increase of 2%.

The UN agency highlights the importance of tourism to the global economic recovery, with special focus on Europe. The continent recorded over 22 million arrivals in 2014, closing the year at 588 million foreign tourists.

The international tourism receipts will only be published in April, but the World Tourism Organization points out that in 2013 the indicator reached 1,178 billion dollars.

For 2015 the agency expects growth of international tourism between 3 and 4%, particularly in the Asia-Pacific and America. The improved economic conditions and the oil price break – with a possible impact on the reduction of transport costs – are mentioned as justification for the setting
