CA says he is better able to analyze the disposal of PT – TVI24

The Competition Authority says it is ‘better placed’ than the European Commission to analyze the concentration resulting from the sale of PT Portugal to the Altice and hopes to convince Brussels to transfer the case to Portugal.

At the annual hearing in the Committee of Budget, Finance and Public Administration, António Ferreira Gomes recalled that the competence to examine this concentration, “the volume of joint business of Altice and PT Portugal”, is the European Commission.

“The Competition Authority considers, however, that is better placed to make the analysis of this merger, because already examined various operations, in great detail in the Portuguese market, and, as such, an evaluation of this PCA process much benefit a speedy conclusion, “said Ferreira Gomes.

The official said that the regulator has taken so the decision to ask for a referral to Portugal to be examined by the Competition Authority.

“The Commission was not in favor of these referral requests in the past, but we think our request is a strong demand ‘, he said.

Ferreira Gomes also said that if the Commission European understand that should maintain jurisdiction over the case, nor has the support, because your original jurisdiction.

The Altice group will buy PT Portugal, with Meo and Sapo services, among others, by 7,400 million euros, after the shareholders of PT SGPS have agreed, in January, the business.
