Cimpor returned to profits in 2014 and ended the year with a net profit of 29.6 million euros, contrasting with losses of 15.3 million euros in 2013.

The cement InterCement controlled by Brazilian group sold 30 million tons of cement and clinker (cement base), 6% more than in the previous year. However, the turnover was 2603 million euros, down 0.8%, and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of 645.6 million, decreasing 6.7% compared to 20 13.

Ricardo Lima, CEO of Cimpor, says the numbers “end up not show the expansion” of the activity due to the “impact of the depreciation of some local currencies” in which the company operates, such as the Brazilian real , the Argentine peso and the South African rand against the euro. “In Brazil, which is today still about 50% of our EBITDA, we achieved great success with our business strategies, market share gains, especially in the first half,” said in the annual report.

The Portuguese market fell 11% “still effect of local economic adversity.” Exports grew by 19% from 2,648,819 tonnes in 2013 to 3,153,800 tons. This result was driven by Africa, where Algeria was “the highlight as sales destination”.

Cimpor has operations in eight countries in South America, Africa and Europe and owns 40 cement plants and mills.
