New note 20 euro comes into circulation on 25 November – Renaissance

The President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, announced on Tuesday that the new note 20 euros will go into circulation on 25 November.

In the presentation of the new note, Mario Draghi said that by that date, the Eurosystem shall have made the printing of more than 4,300 million of notes.

The President of the ECB, who presented the new note 20 euros to the press, he said that this is important because it is the most used within the euro zone.

In total, there are currently 17,500 million euro banknotes in circulation, the value reached EUR billion in December 2014 for the first time.

The new memorandum of 20 euros is the third in the series “Europe” to be introduced, then the ratings for 5 euros and 10 euros, and will include improved security features.

After the entry into banknotes of 20 euros, following will be the 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros.

The ECB has taken measures to support manufacturers, suppliers and owners of equipment that processes and operates with notes on the adjustment of their machines and authentication devices.

“The ECB and the national central banks of the euro area countries look forward to close cooperation with manufacturers, suppliers, operators and notes of equipment owners. Indeed, they are preparing their machines and devices to accept the new note prior to entry into service, “said the member of the Executive Board of the ECB Yves Mersch.

The fight against counterfeiting remains a priority for the monetary authorities, because those who prefer fake notes of 20 and 50 euros.

According to the Bank of Portugal (BoP), these two notes represent about 86% of counterfeits recovered in the first half of 2014, and in this period, was detected a total of 4,818 counterfeit in the country , down 45%.

The most counterfeit bills were 20 euros, with 2,297 notes, followed by 50 euros, with 1,829 cases.
