Unemployment benefit. State pays less and less … – Daily News – Lisbon

There are fewer registered unemployed in the employment centers of the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (IEFP), but the value of the subsidy is also falling. In May, every unemployed received an average of 448 euros per month. Are less than 18 euros in May 2014 and almost 50 euros less than the amount paid in early 2012. It is necessary to go back to July 2006 to find a lower value. Just to blur the effect of inflation since that year (15% in cumulative terms), the subsidy should be today of 504 euros. That is, in terms of purchasing power, it is as if the current unemployed receive less 56 euros per month.

The reason for the lower allowance is falling wages, the fact that the government has downloaded the maximum grant ceiling for 1048 euros and the 10% cut applied after six months of service.

The subsidy reached 279,563 people, out of a maximum of 419,360 beneficiaries accounted in February 2013 . Reducing the number reflects the fall in unemployment. But the data now revealed by Social Security also show that these benefits reach a universe increasingly small people out of work.
