The number is round and helps understand how the news we realize that Portugal is a growing tourist destination in fashion is reflected in the statistics of overnight stays in hotels: in June were registered five million overnight stays in hotels in Portugal (and corresponding to 1.7 million guests). All regions of the country attended growth year on year, but one that reveals most is the glow of the Azores region, the only one to exceed the threshold of 20%.

These values are given in the tourism report released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) and allow to understand the real impact of new air links from companies low-cost which began in April to fly to the islands. If the attractiveness was already apparent in previous years, and the Azorean hoteliers saw increases in total revenues of around 2.6% between June 2014 and the same month in 2013, he never had seen an increase of around 21% as one that occurred this year – surpassing even the growth rates recorded by the Lisbon region.

The growth of the Azores in terms of hotel revenues, represented a cash inflow of 6.3 million in June, and 20.4 million in the half.

Already the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, with a rise of 20% in June, reached 76.9 million euros, thus closing the first half with 345 million euros. Globally, the month of June grew 15%, reaching 251.4 million, with the first six months to avail 994.3 million.

Nationally, the indicators June tourist activity showed a positive growth year on year, 8.5% in the number of guests and 7% in the number of overnight stays. A growth that, by the same INE report, is supported more by an increase in overnight stays by non-residents (+ 7.9%) than domestic customers (+ 4.7%). Here too the Azores stands out, against this trend, and revealing a larger increase between national customers (about 21%).

The month of June has been a very positive close to half the national hotel who managed to overcome the results taken by “historical” 2007, both in terms of average price per room available (RevPar ) and in terms of average room rate busy. The INE showed that the average revenue per room available in June reached the 43.6 euros (+ 15.7%). In release, the Hospitality Association of Portugal emphasizes that, p or the first time, the first half of the year reached a balance between occupancy rate and average price per occupied room, higher than in 2007. ” Being still very modest, yet the RevPar in the country rose, standing at 41 euros (1.81 euros more than in 2007).

Foreign markets accounted for 3.6 million overnight stays in June, with the ten main markets to remain unchanged (they are the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Netherlands, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, United States and Belgium) but to take different behaviors.

The UK market continues to secure more than a quarter of visits (has a 27.4% representation share, 6.4% more year on year) , followed by Germany with a share of 13.7%, drawing a significant increase (+ 13.4%). Also the French national overnight stays registered a significant increase (+ 12.9%), representing a 9 share 8% of overnight stays by non-residents, while in the case of the Spanish neighbors visits watched a cooling: represented 7.5% of overnight stays by non-residents in June 2015 compared to 8.2% in June 2014.
