Portuguese real estate registers record visas “gold” in March – Jornal de Negócios – Portugal

Last March, the granting of visa program “gold” reached the maximum monthly grants since its inception in late 2012: assigned 168 residence permits for investment (ARI), registering now in the first three months of this year nearly half of all visas granted throughout the year 2015.

according to the figures of the Association of Professionals and Real Estate Companies in Portugal (APEMIP) 31 March had been allocated 3,165 visas “gold”, 2,991 of which through the requirement of the acquisition of real estate.

the disclosure of this data coincides with the presence of President APEMIP, Luis Lima, a business mission to Beijing, where he met with the ambassador of Portugal in China, Jorge Torres Pereira, “which also conveyed confidence and optimism about the evolution of the ARI program.”

According to Luís Lima, these figures confirm the signal resume that occurred last February: “the number of visas increased from last month, which confirms that the allocation process normalized. We will now continue to monitor these numbers and see what impact that will have from international investors, “added the representative of the Portuguese real estate in a statement.

In the business mission which took place in Beijing, Lima said he found that “there is still a lot of interest by Chinese citizens,” but cautioned, “it is necessary to keep this in a transparent program, so that there is a breach of trust that can be decisive.”

in terms of total investment, the granting of visa program “gold” has brought to Portugal around € 1.9 billion, and the acquisition of property now exceeds 1.7 billion euros.

the Chinese remain at the top of the list of citizens who invest the most in this program, a total of 2,475 visas granted, followed by Brazil with 140, Russia with 108, South Africa with 82 and Lebanon with 48.
