The plan of Action provides $ 32 million to 30 interventions in the North Coast – RTP

according To João Pedro Matos Fernandes, “works are not thinking about what happened yesterday, but thinking about what may happen tomorrow.”

“Is it even important to do these things in advance as possible, knowing that the sea is not going to leave, and we really have to be always attentive to the evolution”, underlined the minister who was speaking at the Station, the Coastline of Acute, municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.

The set of interventions constitute the priority actions for coastal defense, while the North coast faces erosion problems, including the rise of the line of maximum high tide of living waters, and equinoctial that cause galgamentos and the slimming of the beaches resorts.

These interventions to take place between 2016 and 2019 in the coastal zone, between Caminha and Espinho, provide for the rehabilitation of groins, dune replenishment, demolitions on Public Maritime Domain, the constructs of Ecovias, planning of parking areas and recovery of walkways.

according To the minister, the Action Plan for the North Coast has been drawn to two scales: “scale action plan, which was our commitment, with about 32 million euros of investment for the next three years, and on the scale of the Spatial Plan of the Shoreline (POOC)”.

THE POOC “makes clear a very important thing, is that the community funds of the next cycle have continue to contemplate the existence of funds for adaptation to climate change”, argued the minister.

“he Spent the time making works hard on the coast, we really have to adapt and each year to be able to intervene so that the coast line does not go back and we can hold not only the territory while the territory, but the wealth of this ecosystem of the border which is the coast,” he added.

according To the regional director of the Portuguese Environment Agency/Administration of Hydrographic Region-North (APA/ARH do Norte), of the 30 planned interventions, four are already in progress, and it is envisaged that by the end of this year this number can increase to ten.

Prior to the submission of the Action Plan for the North Coast, João Pedro Matos Fernandes visited the interventions of the protection of the coastline in the surrounding area to the Chapel we Stopped in Thorn, and on the beaches of Granja and Valadares, Vila Nova de Gaia.
