More than 22% of the unemployed have returned to work in the second quarter – the Public.en

Portugal is among the nine countries of the European Union (EU) where the flows between unemployment and employment from the first to the second quarter of 2016 showed worse results than those recorded in 2015. According to the data released by Eurostat on Friday, up 22.4% of the people who were without employment in the first quarter of 2016 managed to get back to the labour market in the following quarter, below the 25% recorded in the same period of 2015.

Still, Portugal is above the european average, where 19.5% of the unemployed have returned to work (above the 18.7% recorded in the same period).

The Eurostat highlights that of the total number of people who were unemployed in the first quarter, 63,2% (12.6 million people) remained unemployed in the following quarter, while a 19.5% (3.9 million) found jobs and 17.3% (3.5 million) have become inactive (students, pensioners and other people who are not working and are not available to seek employment).

And among the people who were employed, 97.3 percent (170,8 million) remained in this situation, a 1.2% (two million) went to the unemployment and 1.6% (2.7 million) have been transferred to the inactivity.

the latest data from The National Statistics Institute (INE) show that the labour market in Portugal is recovering. After you download to 10.8% in the second quarter, the unemployment rate dropped again in the period from July to September to 10.5% of the active population, reversing also the number of people in long-term unemployment.
