Government announces investment of $ 100 million to improve the conditions of the GNR and PSP – Diário de Notícias – Lisbon

the Investment will be made over the next five years, announced this Wednesday the minister of Internal Administration

The minister of Internal affairs, Constance Urbano de Sousa, announced today an investment of over 100 million euros” for the next five years in the improvement of barracks and police stations of the GNR and PSP.

During the opening of the GNR police station of Porto de Mós, the minister considered that there are several police stations and military barracks of the PSP and GNR need of works urgent to ensure better conditions for their members and citizens.

“there is nothing that we can resolve from today to tomorrow. There are several more urgent, as Cucujães, Vila Real de Santo António or where is housed the body of intervention of the PSP in the Help or in the Port, which are infrastructures which have a high degree of degradation and that are properly identified and prioritized”, exemplified Constança Urbano de Sousa on the sidelines of the ceremony.

The minister revealed that, “for the next five years, envisages an investment of over 100 million euros, but that may even be superior, because it depends on a lot of revenue that can be derived from sales of heritage and inure solely to the upgrading of the infrastructure”.

Constança Urbano de Sousa said that “it is necessary to plan the work and gradually go retrieving and creating new conditions and new facilities.”

so, “is currently under discussion in the Assembly of the Republic a law of programming that will allow over the next five years to plan the investment and, above all, provide financial instruments to finance over the next few years works for the upgrading and construction of stations of the national republican guard and police and of the PSP”.

On the station of Porto de Mós, the minister stressed that the new facilities “are more appropriate to the kind of requirements that today are put, and also allow a service that is decent of the population that it serves”, not forgetting “the persons with disabilities, which always have a lot of difficulty in accessing this post and have this right”.

“With this post we guarantee to 22 military providing here service and all the conditions necessary for the performance of its functions. The conditions are met for that Porto de Mós has a new post to the service to the population where the effect of the GNR will continue to make more and better policing,” he added.

The new GNR police station of Porto de Mós is the result of an investment of around 500 thousand euros, of an agreement “tripartite” between the local authority, the Ministry of Internal affairs and the POLICE authorities, said the president of the Chamber, John Willow, which found that the new station is “modern, well-equipped and functional”.

“We have come today to have worthy conditions that will contribute to a proper mission. The lord prime minister was in Porto de Mos on Saturday and said that there were the walls and the concrete that made a better school, also here is not the wall or the concrete that make you a better barracks. The best barracks begins in the benefits of our military personnel. But with better tools work better,” said John Willow.

The commander General of the POLICE, lieutenant-general Manuel da Silva Couto, pointed out that “the data of the evolution of crime in this region, both from a quantitative point of view, whether qualitative, show that the population lives in an environment of relative peace and public tranquillity, which should be retained”.

In recent years, “the crime in the county, especially in crimes against the heritage, has been registering a decline remarkable, the fruit of cooperation and proactivity of the Guard and other local partners, designing-in a very positive way in the sense of security of the population”, she added.
