The management of Rail passes for the city of Lisbon – the Observer

the President of The Republic enacted, this Friday, the decree that assigns to the Chamber of Lisbon, the management of the road Rails, according to a note published on the website of the Presidency.

the President of The Republic promulgated the decree that assigns to the municipality of Lisbon, the assumption of full duties, and legal powers with regard to public service transport to the collective surface of passengers in the city of Lisbon", it reads in the note.

In the document, it is still referred to which is transferred to the local authority to "the contractual position held by the State in the Concession Contract of Public Service concluded with the Rails, and conveys the totality of the shares representative of the share capital of the Rails of the State to the municipality of Lisbon.

With this enactment is open the path for the passage of the management of the Rail for the city of Lisbon, which will take place on 01 February, according to a statement by the Ministry of the Environment announced this Friday, with the names of the new administrations of public transport enterprises of Lisbon.

The companies will have administrations distinct, with the indication of the names for the Rails been properly articulated with the Municipal Chamber of Lisbon, which will deter the company from the 1st of February," reads the statement from the Ministry of the Environment.

At the end of November, the Government and the Chamber of Lisbon signed a memorandum of the passage of the management of the road Rails for the local authority. At the time, measures were announced as the reinforcement of the 250 new buses over the next three years to the city, at an investment of 60 million euros, the hiring of 220 drivers, the creation of 21 new lines and, still, the granting of free passes to all children up to 12 years and discounts for the elderly.

The option of the Government to deliver the Rails to the municipality comes in the wake of the suspension of the proceedings for the grant released in 2011 by the Government PSD/CDS-PP, led by Pedro Passos Coelho.
